Penn State Altoona announces 2025 African American Read-in events

The annual African American Read-in at Penn State Altoona will take place on Monday, Feb. 24. This year’s theme is Young Readers. Events include the “Monday Marathon,” a keynote presentation by Shanetia P. Clark, and a community program at the Railroad City Cultural Center in downtown Altoona.

Penn State Altoona announces 2025 athletics hall of fame inductees

Selected to the Penn State Altoona Athletics Hall of Fame were Frank "Junie" Moore (men's basketball, 1947–1949), Reese Piper (men's basketball, 1971–1972), the 2000–2001 and 2001–2002 women's basketball teams, Tony Petulla (baseball, 2005–2008), Jimmy Baum (baseball, 2009–2012) and Cord Heine (baseball, 2009–2012). Moore enters the Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Achievement Inductee. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, in the Adler Athletic Complex.

Penn State Altoona to hold ‘Altoona Expo’ Nov. 5

The event showcases individuals or groups involved in significant academic field trips or scholarly projects, study abroad/study away, research and creative activities, internships or clinical work, community-based studies, or related work through student clubs.

Libraries to host World War II memoirist and his co-author for Veterans Day talk

Penn State University Libraries will observe Veterans Day with a talk by a local World War II veteran and the Penn State faculty member who co-authored his memoir. Jared Frederick, assistant teaching professor of history at Penn State Altoona, and John Homan, co-authors of “Into the Cold Blue: My World War II Journeys with the Mighty Eighth Air Force,” will speak about Homan’s experiences in the war at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 in Foster Auditorium on the first floor of Paterno Library. A virtual attendance option is also available.

University Libraries’ Student Showcase celebrates outstanding student work

The Penn State University Libraries’ 2024 Student Showcase and Outstanding Student Employee Awards offered a glimpse into the outstanding achievements and perspectives of part-time student staff, undergraduate interns and graduate assistants who have worked alongside librarians, archivists and staff to further the Libraries’ mission and played a crucial role in supporting the academic and research needs of the Penn State community.
